North Cyprus The Fez – Korineum Golf Club – Ryder Cup Style Golf Match

Over the weekend of 20th and 21st September, the Fez golf team played Korineum Golf Club in a Ryder Cup style match. Two teams of 12 took to the fairways (and most other parts of the course) on Saturday morning in the fourballs and foursomes.

Team Fez had a fantastic morning winning 81/2 to 3 ˝, giving them a handy lead for Sunday’s singles.  Stormin Norman and Jonathan (Le Bon) Shaw, Michael JD Jones and Steve Aussie Donaghy, Jay Hamilton and Jamie Silbery scored maximum points and Ken Strongarm and Gazza humiliated Guile and Patterson 5 and 4 in the fourballs.

Geordie Brian playing for The Fez even though he is captain of Korineum Club celebrated his 65th birthday on the Saturday, and a number of the Fez team toasted their victories dancing the night away to a great sold out Time Machine Show.

It was inevitable that The K Club would fight back on Sunday, after the drubbing they took on Saturday, the shock of the day before still evident on their faces. They played some fine golf and won the singles 7 1/2 to 4 1/2 but it was not enough to deny the Fez a 13 to 11 victory. Mark Weavers pulling off a stunning victory over Korineum Captain elect Brian Tattersall.

Most of the players headed straight to The Fez sports bar to witness the real Ryder Cup from Kentucky on five screens, unfortunately the European team were outplayed and the Americans deservedly triumphed.

This did not dampen Team Fez’s spirits too much, as the celebrations went on to the early hours of the morning.

On Monday September 29th the Fez Go –kart A and B teams will be taking on all comers at the Cemsa track in Lefkosia, read our next blog to find out how they got on...............
